Childless Muslim men and women are human beings like everyone else. Since the subject of childlessness remains taboo in our Muslim communities, they are ignored. Therefore, we do not know who they are.

Often among these childless Muslims, some seek support. This is not surprising, because living in a pronatalist society and a community that portrays procreation as a religious obligation, isolates and undermines not only mental health, but also spirituality.

Menopause affects all women, whether they have given birth or not. Nevertheless, the subject remains taboo in all communities, even if it is coming out of the shadows thanks in particular to World Menopause Awareness Day in October.

I wanted to address the menopause of Muslim women, because the consequences of menopause, in addition to cultural and religious preconceptions, affect their spirituality and their religious practices.

People who are childless by circumstances seem to have the sympathy of preachers: they are still granted the status of Muslims.

STAY WITH ME BY AYÒBÁMI ADÉBÁYÒ

Infertility, polygamy, the weight of traditions, the cult of motherhood, the taboo of male infertility, the survival of a childless couple… These are the themes addressed in the book Stay with me written by Ayòbámi Adébáyò.

When I read the synopsis of the book, I said to myself, « I have to read it! » It describes a couple in love, Akin and his wife Yejide who have been married for 4 years and « still » have no children, a second wife arrives at their home one day. Yejide is distraught and tries everything to conceive a baby and save her marriage.

Nowadays, it is easy to think that God made a mistake in letting childless men and women walk on the planet. We can also imagine that those who want children and fail (whatever their conditions) do not give themselves the means to conceive them and that people who do not want them are suffering from a disease still unknown.
